This webpage showcases the Atlas centenary exhibition held at the Malta Chamber Courtyard in April-May 2024. The exhibition was a celebration of the ingenuity, resilience, and enduring spirit of local entrepreneurship. Through a curated collection of clients’ anecdotes and artefacts, we paid homage to some key commercial narratives that helped to shape Malta’s economic and social landscape over the one hundred year period.
The Atlas story has only been made possible thanks to these very narratives. As we commemorated a century of insuring the Maltese public, initially as agents for overseas insurers, we chose to express our gratitude by highlighting the achievements of the commercial community that sustained us rather than focusing on our accomplishments alone.
This digital commemoration of the exhibition includes additional information including footage of lectures as well as a 360° virtual tour of the exhibition space.
Our roots can be traced back to when pioneers like Albert and Victor von Brockdorff, who founded their insurance agency in 1920; Walter Camilleri Sr, who followed suit in 1927, and then Alfred Formosa in 1945, laid the groundwork for what would eventually evolve into the Atlas of today. Over the past century, our antecedents steered their businesses through challenges and triumphs, eventually leading to the merger in 1998 instigated by Walter G. Camilleri and Robert von Brockdorff together with Brian Valenzia and later with Michael Gatt in 2000 to create Atlas Insurance.
Our yearly calendars, which have been part of our tradition since 2007, showcase the works of local artists and celebrate the creative talent within our shores. In 2024, the calendar featured shots of this exhibition, captured through the artistic lens of photographer Lisa Attard. You can view them here.
