Through this curation, Atlas Insurance seeks to highlight the artistic evolution of Catherine Cavallo across her remarkable career, where her work draws inspiration from her global travels while consistently remaining rooted in her Maltese heritage.
Catherine Calleja, Executive Director and Group Company Secretary of Atlas Insurance, commented: “We firmly believe in supporting the Arts as part of our wider community engagement programme. This seventeenth edition of our Atlas Calendar, which is one way we support the arts, is this year dedicated to Catherine’s beautiful work. This annual initiative is an occasion to showcase the work of an artist and give some moments each month to celebrate, be moved by or even to be provoked by a piece of art. We hope that Catherine Cavallo’s colourful artistic journey, as depicted in our 2024 calendar, will give many such moments throughout the coming year to our clients and business partners.”
Artist Catherine Cavallo thanked Atlas Insurance while commenting on the importance of these kinds of initiatives for a thriving arts and culture sector: “Supporting artists is fundamental to promoting a culture of creativity and innovation. Beyond their artistic endeavours, artists need to be supported through initiatives that enhance exposure and inspire people to actively engage with and appreciate the arts.”
The below is an excerpt from Catherine Cavallo’s biographic description in the 2024 Atlas Insurance Calendar, which describes her background and artistic journey:
Catherine Cavallo started her studies in London at the age of 18, where she studied Fine Art/Oil Painting for four years at The City and Guilds of London Art School. She spent eight years in London, focusing solely on figurative painting. This was followed by three years in Tuscany. The Chianti region had a strong influence on her palette which can be seen in her present works. Now resident in Malta, Catherine captures the spirit of her birthplace with characteristic intensity. Catherine’s pure love of the use and manipulation of paint has led to abstract works, where colour and tone precede form. Her genres of painting, figurative, sea/landscape and abstract, often influence and infiltrate each other.
